I am running because I have a better way
I will begin by listening to what neighborhoods and citizens want - not just developers and private interests.
- I will demand full financial disclosure about the costs of a project and insist on compliance with bids and proposals.
- I will remember that our park system is used by children, seniors, and families - not just recreational sports participants.
- I will meet the needs of the broadest possible spectrum of park users, not just favored groups.
- I will preserve and grow the legacy of a park system that was renowned throughout the U.S.
- I will welcome public participation in the decision-making process, not hide from it.
- I will ask how each decision makes the Minneapolis park system better or more accessible.
- Most importantly, I will ask citizens how MPRB decisions affect them and their use of parks.
The legacy of the Minneapolis park system is a vast network of water and green space for people of all ages and interests to enjoy - not to be parceled off to private interests or developers.
It is not only reasonable to ask what would Theodore Wirth do - it is what every MPRB commissioner should do!
